Trompe L'oeil with Greek Motif, oil on linen

Gothic Arch Trompe L'oeil, mixed media on linen and plaster
The Gothic arch painting presented its own unique challenge: the central part of it was painted on linen and installed in a receded niche, after which the surrounding plaster of the niche itself was painted to reinforce the three-dimensional effect.

This was my first trompe l'oeil ("trick the eye") painting, commissioned by a wonderful client who graced me with several commissions over the years and gave me great creative freedom. In their home they had a Greek statue that proved to be the inspiration for this piece. Among the objects depicted, I included several items they had in their home, including a photo of a beloved dog who had died, so this work had meaning on several levels. The painting is about eight feet in height and was stretched around a custom arched frame before installation.

Neptune, oil on linen

Naval Flags, acrylics
There's stately. There's dignified. There's whimsical. And sometimes there's just plain fun: a client wanted her grandson's name painted on his bedroom walls in naval flags, each one representing a letter of his name.
